Class I - Plain Caramel : Liquid E150a

Type I or Class I Caramel Colours (E150a), also known as ‘Plain Caramels,’ ‘Caustic Caramels,’ or ‘Spirit Caramels,’ are deep red-brown viscous liquids produced by controlled cooking of sugars, with a slight negative colloidal charge. They can be created using food-grade acids, bases, or salts, excluding ammonium and sulphite compounds, resulting in a colour range from light reddish-yellow to reddish- brown. Class I (E150a) caramel colours are considered the most natural among the four types of caramel and are widely used in food and beverage applications, at Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) levels. With alcohol solubility up to 80%, Class I (E150a) caramels are preferred for various liquor applications. Alvin offers Class I (E150a) caramels in three categories: Regular, Premium, and Supreme, with multiple variants within each category.
